Monday May 14, “Find a Friend”
By participating in the 3rd annual Diabetes Blog Week I will be blogging every day this week! There are an amazing amount of diabetes bloggers out there so take advantage of exploring them this week. We will all be answering specific questions or writing about specific topics.
Today’s topic is “Find a Friend”. The Blog I would like to introduce you to is The Adventures of a Gluten Free Mom. Heidi is the creator of this blog with her motto “when there is a will, there is a way”- SO TRUE!
As you already know, I blog about type 1 diabetes and celiac disease. If you have type 1 diabetes, you have a 1:10 chance of also having or developing celiac disease. Because it is my passion to write and educate about both diseases, I thought Diabetes Blog Week would be a fantastic time to make a connection to another celiac disease blogger.
Heidi has multiple family members with autoimmune diseases, allergies and food sensitivities. She does a fabulous job of bringing awareness to the interconnectedness of autoimmune diseases and that is what I love about her blog. I cook for a family with celiac disease, type 1 diabetes, tree nut/ banana/ chicken/ turkey allergies and one vegetarian. The challenges of cooking a healthful and safe meal for everyone in the house is a common theme today. Allergies, gluten sensitivities and celiac disease are all on the rise.
On the Adventures of a Gluten Free Mom you will find a piece on Michelle and her son Westin (who also blog at earthsheltered.org). Westin has type 1 diabetes and celiac disease like so many others. Read about their diagnosis story and living with both diseases.
Living with celiac disease and type 1 diabetes ups the anty on dietary restrictions and blood sugar control. Celiac disease adds many factors that can potentially impact diabetes management. Heidi will get you started with diagnostic information and keep you rolling through creating a gluten free household.
Heidi has an amazing array of mouth watering recipes, minus the dietary irritants. Her website is a go-to for its menu planning, shopping lists, articles, and research updates. The Adventures of a Gluten Free Mom is both user friendly and truly inviting. Please pop over to her website and learn more about autoimmune diseases and diet.
